Ready for Discovery: The Fabulous Botanical Garden of Batumi
Hello! A few days ago I had the chance to visit one of Georgia’s secret treasures: the charming Batumi Botanical Garden. The beach, the jungle, and the panorama await all at once – a guaranteed winning trio! 🏝️
🌿 What is this place?
The garden lies just 9 km from Batumi, nestled among the slopes of Green Cape – it’s as if the tropics and the sea together wink at us. It has existed since 1912, founded by Andrey Krasnov, and to this day representatives from 9 different phytogeographic zones flourish here – from Asia to Central America!
🗺️ What does it show?
- More than 100 hectares of pathways – well-maintained trails in the forest, with resting places.
- Breathtaking panoramic view of the waves of the Black Sea from above.
- Japanese garden, magnolia grove, and exotic plant compositions – the camera will definitely be busy.
- There is also an electric minibus for those who would reduce the amount of walking (10 GEL for foreign speakers, half that for Georgians).
💶 Entrance and info
Usually, entrance costs 20 GEL for foreigners (about 2200 HUF), cheaper for Georgian students/adults – great choice for families. Opening hours 9:00–20:00, it’s worth packing a little sandwich or coffee, there are plenty of benches.
👣 Pocket tips – to make the day a hit
- Arrive in the early morning – the sunlight is the most beautiful then, and there are fewer people.
- Bike path along the seaside? Yes! Before or after, it’s worth cycling along Batumi’s promenade too – beautiful.
- It’s worth stopping in the middle of the route for a little rest, for the view of ships swaying on the Black Sea.
- If you want information about the plants, book a guided tour in advance – with a professional, the interesting facts come through even better.
🎒 Why did I love it?
Because it simultaneously offers silence, an exciting botanical adventure, and playful ease – it’s like you’ve cut out a few hours from the weekdays into a tropical novel. And the view is as if you could also caress the sea – no worries, just better mood! 😄
If you’re planning a Budapest–Tiszakécske–Batumi route, don’t miss out! The plants, the murmur of the sea, and your switched-off brain will all thank you for it.
